2014 Grammy Nomination Snubs

Every music lovers holiday is upon us and Saturday night was the preparation for it. Saturday night 2014’s Grammy nominees were released. And it wouldn’t be a decent year in music, if it weren’t any disappointments. Considering the amazing music  we got this year, it was exciting to see which artist the academy were forced to acknowledge. While we sit back  on January 26,and watch everyone collect the music industries biggest honor, here are some of our favorite artist that will not be honored.  While everybody’s favorite musician in the world can’t win, here are some that Tay felt were snubbed.

1) K Michelle
All ratchetness aside, K Michelle was one of the lone singers that put the R&B genre on her back this year. While V.S.O.P wasn’t my favorite song, her album was pretty solid. You say what you want about K.Michelle but on the basis of a true R&B artist and album, her album Rebellious Soul meets the criteria and would’ve carried its weight next to Tamar Braxton and John Legend. (Sorry Ciara)While the academy was scraping up nominees out of the “urban sector” for the R&B category, they could’ve given K a nomination. Hell Alicia Keys Girl on Fire got one, and the human ear can only physically tolerate that song for 20 seconds.

2) J Cole
Born Sinner was one of the albums that made summer 2013 one of the greatest for hip hop in a while. Cole showed his massive sized kahunas to the rap world when he purposefully dropped his album on the same day as his label mate Kanye West. Now I’m willing to fight to the death with someone about which one was better (cough, cough Born Sinner) but the quality of Born Sinner can’t be denied. The album has lost a little bit of its hype since the summer, but since Kanye has been force feeding Yeezus down our throat, Born Sinner took a back seat. Cole isn’t at his peak where he could have won against Magna Carta/Holy Grail or Nothing was the Same but it would’ve been nice to see it on the list.

3) Miley Cyrus
If only they gave out Grammy’s out for twerking…..she still wouldn’t win, but music wise Miley was definitely snubbed this year. Although her album dropped too late for a nomination, Wrecking Ball was definitely a decent song with notoriety this year. If Miley knew she wasn’t even going to be recognized for her music video, she probably wouldn’t have put her bare crotch on that cold wrecking ball in the video.

bow down bitches
4) Rihanna
Rihanna haters please keep your hate to yourself.

Will Rih go down for best singer or performer when her Rihanna reign is over? No, probably not. But the fact that she recently just broke the record  for having the most No.1 pop songs of ALL TIME, should count for something. (Kanye voice) Putting my Rihanna love aside: Only 2 nominations for a platinum album is borderline disrespectful. I mean c’mon, the woman is an ICON! (American Music Award’s words, not mine)

5) Kanye West- Oooo Kanye gonna be mad…..

While I’m not all the way against this one, Mr.West may think of his mere 2 nominations as “an attempt by white corporate America to marginalize the urban community from public success!”  (Kanye rant voice), but this just proved that Yeezus went way above everybody’s head. One can only think that the poor academy gave West the 2 nominations out of pure fear of public scrutiny. My only objection is to the Best Rap Performance category. Any YouTube video will show that, Kanye’s creative, fearless creativity and empire sized ego makes a great performance. But hey, at the relief of whatever security that is working the show that night, maybe Ye will be so offended at a mere 2 nominations that he won’t even show up.
